What’s it all about?

Running since 2011 including an adapted online version in 2020, we host a Holiday Bible Club each summer which has an overall theme and which focuses on Bible stories, either following one person’s life or different people. We have used materials provided by publishers such as ‘Landlubbers’, ‘Space Academy’, ‘Cops and Robbers’, ‘Mega Makers’ and ‘Showstoppers’ but have also produced our own materials with themes such as ‘Wild Frontiers’, ‘Locked Up (2020)’, ‘Explorers’, ‘Construction Zone’ and ‘A Knight’s Quest’.

We take over the entire building for the week, transforming the front of the church into a focal point for our theme (which could be a castle, a theatre stage, a pirate ship etc.

Every morning starts with free-choice junk modelling where we see some wonderful creations from our children, some slightly too big to take home at the end of the week! We then move into our main church space for singing and dancing, a story told creatively and some questions to check we’ve understood the story (with the incentive of sweets of course!).

Children then move to their smaller groups to make a craft based on the story of the day, to have snack and sometimes for other activities if time allows, although it is usually a busy session.

Our young people in Years 7 & 8 have separate activities for their more mature age and they engage in discussions, play games and also have snacks!

We join back together for a large group game, testing memories with a few more questions, a reflective prayer activity and finishing with singing and dancing as we wear out the leaders completely!

The leaders are adult and teenage volunteers from Christchurch and from All Saints Llanedeyrn.

We end the week with a celebration which now includes a service for the children and their families on the Sunday morning where the church remains under our takeover and then a family lunch and games afterwards which has been a great social opportunity.
