Prayer (again)
They raised their voices together to God …When they had prayed, the place in which they were gathered together was shaken; and they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and spoke the word of God with boldness.

The early Christians in Jerusalem were in a tough place. For they were a small group of ordinary people, they were following a discredited leader who’d been killed by a brutal occupying power working in cahoots with the religious authorities, and their two main spokesmen had just been arrested for illegal preaching. So, when those men were released from custody, what did they do? It would have been natural for them to turn in on themselves and have a good moan about their woes. Christian Aid
24 Hours for Christian Aid
Advance notice of a weekend of events in support of Christian Aid on Saturday, October 13th (midday) into Sunday, October 14th (midday) ending with joint worship. Activities are being organised by a small team, drawn from churches in Cardiff East, but all events will be at one venue, Christchurch, with the aim of raising funds and awareness. Full details in the October issue of Pulse and on poster.
Holiday Bible Club
Holiday Bible Club
Over 50 children attended the Holiday Bible Club, on the theme of Showstoppers, over five weekday
mornings at the end of August. It was a huge success, an amazing week and the children had a great experience. On the Saturday, a number went to the Beach Party at Barry Island and were lucky to have a sunny day. The week concluded with a special service on the Sunday morning, followed by a buffet lunch enjoyed by over 80 guests! Words
Words are powerful. They have the ability to encourage or crush people, to anger or soothe, to inspire or condemn, to incite hate or reach out in love – and much more besides. Although I realise that dogs bark and dolphins seem to have sophisticated ways of communicating with each other, nevertheless it is humans who have uniquely been given the capacity for complex and intelligent speech. Let us ALL pray
I think that most Christians struggle to pray – I certainly do! Perhaps we have trouble forming the words we want to use, perhaps we battle against irrelevant thoughts which seem to edge their way into our minds, or perhaps we simply find ourselves nodding off! No, prayer isn’t easy – yet all of us, I hope, would say that it is basic for both our personal spirituality and the corporate life of our church. As a hymn-writer once put it, prayer is “the Christian’s vital breath”. Read more “Minister’s Letter – July 2018”
General
Church Walk
The walk took place on Saturday, 16th June. Twenty took part and made way in convoy to the village of Pendoylan, from where the circular walk started.
Unfortunately, it wasn’t the dry, sunny day hoped for, but the cloudy, showery weather did not deter the walkers.
After returning to the starting point at Pendoylan, the group enjoyed a few hours together at the Red Lion. As you can imagine, there was much chatter and laughter throughout the walk, and I’m sure all look forward to the next one.
